| Juan Puig
was born in Barcelona, Spain. He felt interested in art since he
was a child,. He used to draw at the school blackboard for holidays,
win class drawing contests, and spend his pocket money on arts and
crafts supplies. As a young teenager he took artistic anathomy and
oil-painting lessons in the old and famous Llotja school of Barcelona.
At Belles Arts highschool of Barcelona University, Juan took classes
on painting, print-making, drawing and sculpture. But the deepest
influence in his formation were three years at Massana school for
the Advancement of Science and Art in Barcelona. There he took classes
on calligraphy, architectonics, two and three dimension design,
life drawing, and painting. Gradually his style became more abstract
while experimenting different materials with a special focus on
composition.
Juan has lived in Barcelona, Mallorca, Sao Paulo Brasil, Milano
Italy and New Jersey USA, and now he stays in a mediterranean village
close to Barcelona. He has worked in advertising as an art director,
and creative director in international Companies for several years.
He was also a teacher in Elisava, a very prestigious graphic school
in Barcelona.

In the early eighties
Juan switched from oil paint to acrylics. He found that acrylics
fit better his style because they dry quickly. Usually, he works
on a painting along many days, adding layers that accumulate without
masking totally the previous layers. He always paints standing up
and using his hands and rags greased in paint instead of a brush.
Like in jazz, the heart of his work process is improvisation.
Juan's work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in galleries
throughout Spain, Brasil and Italy.
About his painting, Juan says: ' I am of course indebted to all
the artists who came before me, for the wonderful ways they have
transmuted color, line and shape. Some of my very special art inspiration
are Miro, Kandinsky, Pollock and Tapies'
